About China and U.S. Negotiate in Switzerlan

China has its challenges. Recently, I’ve heard more about President Xi—some say he’s lost influence and no longer fully controls the military. At the same time, Beijing and Washington are negotiating to reduce tariffs. Many people might see that as a positive step, but I’m not so sure.

Trump believed he could “open up” China, but I think that’s a misunderstanding. China’s economic system isn’t something that can be opened easily. The culture of governance there tends to emphasize control, which often means workers are pushed to produce more rather than pursue innovation or freedom. Maybe Europe or Russia will continue to accept Chinese products, but that’s just my personal view.
